Nursing Recruitment and Education to Expand Access to Culturally Aligned Healthcare (REEACH)

Nursing Recruitment, and Education to Expand Access to Culturally aligned Healthcare (Nursing REEACH), is a comprehensive program designed to recruit, educate, and train advanced nursing students to become leaders in managing Social Determinants of Health (SDOH) by providing care in rural and underserved areas in Southwest ÕýÆ·À¶µ¼º½ and Southeast Mississippi via Mobile Health Units (MHUs). MHUs are integral to rural and underserved communities with high rates of morbidity and mortality in the Gulf Coast region resulting from both unmet health needs and a critical shortage of nurses prepared to lead teams addressing SDOHs within rural and underserved populations. This project designs, implements, and sustains the innovative Nursing REEACH Program intended to improve healthcare access and quality in rural and underserved communities using a comprehensive approach to recruit and train an advanced nursing workforce (RN to BSN; Advanced Practice Registered Nurses [APRN]) prepared to provide culturally-aligned care through nurse-led interprofessional teams via MHUs.
Project Pathways
REEACH is designed to provide longitudinal experiential training experiences for RN-to-BSN and APRN students in rural and underserved communities.
Nurse-led MHUs will provide nursing students hands-on experience with a high volume of rural and medically underserved patients with complex medical, mental health and social service needs. The project will provide resources and interdisciplinary care protocols to meet the complex patient needs.
